London Limestone Spiral Staircase

Location: Kensington, London
Stone: Limra Limestone
Production: AFJ Ipsden, Turkey

The staircase build on Hereford Road, at one of the most prestigious addresses in London, provided significant logistical and operational challenges with the resulting four storey spiral stone staircase proving a resounding project success aesthetically, functionally and logistically.

The build took place three floors below street level in a newly dug basement. This presented the on-site challenge of hoisting the main elements up and over the two existing floors before lowering them down to the bottom of the basement. We were in essence building our way out of a purpose built hole in the ground.

The client wanted a white stone for this very contemporary and elegant design. Limra Limestone, from Turkey was specified during the design process and the Af Jones Stone Interiors focus on early consultation led to a successful selection and procurement stage. Lead times could then be carefully controlled, with delivery and fitting running smoothly despite the busy urban setting and challenging hoisting requirements.

The results were an aesthetic success with AF Jones Stone Interiors collaborative expertise in design, sourcing, cutting and installation helping translate the architects’ vision into a graceful stone reality on a world-class project.
